McNair Symposium at Berkeley and Cruise of San Francisco Aug. 4-9, 2010

My Internship with FVM Global Magazine

My first article was published this summer, "Becoming Marilyn":

The Becoming Marilyn exhibit of original photography of Norma Jeane-Marilyn opened on June 24, 2010 at the Andrew Weiss Gallery in Beverly Hills. The exhibit consisted of popular Hollywood photography of Marilyn Monroe and the event was put together to commemorate Marilyn’s 84th birthday. The attendees of the opening event had the privilege of meeting Bill Carroll, the last living photographer of Norma Jeane-Marilyn.

The link that brought Bill Carroll and Marilyn together was the result of a serendipitous event in which Bill needed a “girl next door” to shoot and Marilyn was launching her modeling career. The two met for two days at

Castle Rock beach, “one mile north of Sunset Boulevard”, where Bill took about 145 photos in black and white as well as in color. After their photo shoot, both parted ways and moved on with their careers. It was not until many years later that Bill realized the photos of the “girl next door” that he took many years ago had become Marilyn.

When asked about Marilyn and her photos, Bill said the following, “The thing that I would like to say to all of you because to me it is very important, these are not my pictures, these are her pictures. She posed herself, she did the smiling, she looked….I did absolutely no posing. That’s what you are looking today”.

The Becoming Marilyn exhibit will be available for public viewing from June 25 through September 18, 2010 at the Andrew Weiss Gallery, 179 S. Beverly Dr., Beverly Hills, CA 90212.
